Commentary: The attribution of this issue to Andros is conjectural. It is given to Athens by Seltman, Athens, its History and Coinage (Cambridge, 1924), p. 151-52 and Cahn, "Zur frühattischen Munzprägung," Museum Helveticum 3 (1946), p. 81, while in BMCCrete, p. 90, 14, and in Traite 2, 1, no. 1870, it is attributed to Carthaea on Ceos. Hoard evidence, such as the 1889 Hoard (IGCH 6) and the Santorini Hoard (IGCH 7) in which this issue appeared with staters of Aegina and several Cycladic islands, would indicate that the mint is to be located on one of the Cycladic islands.
